RESILIENCE helps you survive cancer with a strong heart

Return to routine after cancer

When someone is diagnosed with cancer, their professional activity might be interrupted as well as daily routines until the disease has been cured.

Even though returning to work might be beneficial for the person, not only from an economical point of view, but also from a social and emotional perspective, this new chapter in life could be more difficult than expected.

It is important to take into consideration that the decision of going back to work should be personal and not based on any pressure (social, work, family) the person might feel.

Which are the benefits of returning to routine after illness?

Returning to the day-to day activities we used to do before having cancer, such as going back to work, can help us to regain our social network.

Interacting regularly with people and resuming all the plans we had before being ill, has a significant impact on facing the present and the future in a more objective, positive and hopeful way.

Furthermore, having suffered cancer and overcome it, on many occasions, encourages us to reflect on the lifestyle we had before.

For this reason, many cancer survivors take in a healthy diet and physical exercise into their lives, as well as reduce alcohol consumption or quit smoking.

Did you know that according to different studies, to perform regular physical activity in some cancers such as breast cancer can reduce its recurrence?

Therefore, this is another reason why people who have overcome cancer decide to include exercise habits into their daily lives.

Life after cancer continues and with more strength

Suffering from cancer and overcoming it is a long process in which many emotions and thoughts are felt.

One of the feelings that patients of the RESILIENCE project share the most with us is the strength with which they return to life without the disease, becoming aware of the present, enjoying every minute and understanding life as a gift that must be lived with the five senses.
