RESILIENCE helps you survive cancer with a strong heart

Science Meets Society: RESILIENCE Project Outreach Events

How Does Your Heart Relate to Cancer?

This question was at the center of two recent RESILIENCE outreach events held at the Spanish National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC), where science met curiosity and dialogue.

Science and Innovation Week

On November 11, RESILIENCE hosted an open workshop during Madrid’s Science and Innovation Week. Thirty students aged 18 to 30, accompanied by their teacher, joined us to explore the link between cardiovascular health and cancer treatment.

The session was led by Andrea Moreno, research cardiologist at CNIC’s Translational Laboratory for Cardiovascular Imaging and Therapy and Marta Gavilán (Senior diagnostic imaging technician) together with Noemí Escalera (project manager) and Beatriz Beltrán (project nurse). Through interactive activities, participants learned about the RESILIENCE H2020 project, which aims to prevent heart failure in cancer survivors by helping patients maintain a strong heart during therapy.

The audience’s curiosity sparked insightful questions about how our research works and its impact on patient care. This dialogue is exactly what we strive for: bringing science closer to society.

European Researchers’ Night: Connecting Science and Society

Earlier, on September 26, RESILIENCE participated in the European Researchers’ Night, an event celebrated in more than 350 cities across Europe to promote science outreach and support research careers. We organized the same workshop, inviting the public to explore the heart-cancer connection and the importance of cardiovascular health during cancer treatment.
