Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) it is a technique without radiation, which is considered the gold-standard for the evaluation of cardiac anatomy, function and even tissue composition. The RESILIENCE trial will use CMR as the main outcome measure methodology, and patients enrolled in the trial will undergo 3 scans across the duration of the study.
Multinational, prospective, proof of concept phase II, double-blinded, sham-controlled, randomized clinical trial (RCT) to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Remote Ischaemic Conditioning (RIC) in Lymphoma patients receiving anthracyclines. Patients scheduled to undergo ≥5 chemotherapy cycles will be eligible.
Als gevolg van de behandleing van kanker lopen patiënten een hoger risico op complicaties in het hart- en vaastsystem. Chemotherapie met anthracyclines is een uiterst effectieve behandeling tegen veel soorten kanker, maar ze kunnen schadelijk zijn voor het hart, wat kan leiden tot chronisch hartfalen. RESILIENCE zal een nieuwe preventieve methode (ischemische conditionering op afstand) testen bij patiënten met een risico op deze door anthracycline-veroorzaakte schade aan het hart.
Daarnaast zal nieuwe diagnostiek worden gebruikt om hartschade veroorzaakt door antracyclines in een zeer vroeg stadium te ontdekken. RESILIENCE werkt met een multidisciplinair consortium met actieve deelname van patiënten.

Dankzij de grote wetenschappelijke en medische vooruitgang zijn er steeds meer mensen die kanker overleven in Europa. Overlevenden van kanker lopen echter een hoog risico op complicaties in het hart. Onder hen is hartfalen bijzonder zorgwekkend. Er is een sterke behoefte om schadelijke gevolgen bij overlevenden van kanker te verminderen en hun kwaliteit van leven te verhogen.
Ischemische conditionering op afstand (RIC) is een therapie waarbij de doorbloeding in een bepaald orgaan, bijvoorbeeld een arm, korte tijd onderbroken wordt om daarmee andere organen te beschermen tegen schade.
MRI van het hart (of cardiale magnetische resonantie, CMR) is een afbeeldingstechniek die werkt zonder straling, en wordt beschouwd als de gouden standaard voor de beoordeling van de anatomie, functie en zelfs weefselsamenstelling van het hart.
Het gaat om een internationale, prospective haalbaarheidsstudie waarbij patienten gedurende een bepaalde tijd gevolgd worden. Daarbij gaat het om een fase 2, randomiseerd onderzoek met een controlegroep om de werkzaamheid en veiligheid te evalueren van ischemische conditionering op afstand (RIC) bij patiënten met Lymfoom die antracyclines krijgen. Patiënten die ≥5 chemotherapiecycli zullen ondergaan, komen in aanmerking.
De behandeling van non-Hodgkin lymfoom (NHL) omvat het gebruik van antracyclines binnen een homogene combinatiechemotherapie. NHL is bijzonder kwetsbaar voor door antracycline geïnduceerd hartfalen. NHL treft zowel vrouwen als mannen, en het is dus ideaal om genderverschillen in hartschade te bestuderen.
